Zamboanga Election official arrested for online libel

Election official nabbed for online libel Monday, September 04, 2017 By BONG GARCIA AUTHORITIES arrested an election official in Zamboanga Peninsula for online libel, the police reported on Monday, September 4.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the arrested election officer as lawyer Wilfredo Jay Balisado, 47.

Balisado is the Commission on Elections-Zamboanga Peninsula director. Galvez said that Balisado was arrested around 2:45 p.m., Saturday, September 2, in the village of Biasong, Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte. Galvez said Balisado was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest, which was issued by a court in Quezon City, for violation of Section 4 (online libel) of Republic Act 10175 otherwise known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

Galvez said Balisado was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest, which was issued by a court in Quezon City, for violation of Section 4 (online libel) of Republic Act 10175 otherwise known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

She, however, added that Balisado was released almost three hours after his arrest for posting the recommended bail of P24,000.
