The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition of Senator Leila De Lima that questioned the issuance of a warrant of arrest against her.

The SC justices voted 9-6 junking De Lima’s plea.

The high tribunal also did not agree with the senator on her position that the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) was not in a position to allow the finding of probable cause to charge her with drug related cases.

The SC verdict means De Lima will remain in detention at the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame.

De Lima previously went to the SC to question the lower court’s issuance of an arrest warrant for her.

She had said Muntinlupa RTC had no right to release the arrest warrant because her motion to quash the charges was still pending.

The criminal complaints were filed by the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The DOJ earlier held De Lima allegedly responsible for the proliferation of illegal drug trade inside New Bilibid Prison when she was Justice Secretary.
