Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Amelia Fabros-Corpuz of Branch 205 has reset the arraignment for the drug case of detained Senator Leila de Lima.
The proceeding was supposed to take place today.
The postponement is meant to give the prosecution a few more days to respond to the motions filed by the defense panel.
The court set the new arraignment date to September 15, 2017 (Friday).
The criminal complaint in the sala of Fabros-Corpuz is the second of the three drug cases filed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) against the senator.
Meanwhile, De Lima’s counsel, Former Senator Rene Saguisag, has asked President Rodrigo Duterte to stop criticizing his client.
Saguisag says, the legal proceedings against de Lima are a mistrial since the prosecution had supposedly failed to produce evidence linking De Lima to the drug trade in New Bilibid Prison.
On August 27, De Lima will celebrate her 57th birthday.
She says, her birthday wish is to be vindicated from the charges hurled against her by the Duterte administration.
