Cayamora Maute, the father of the terrorist brothers who led the attack on Marawi City, has died while in detention, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology said Sunday.
According to BJMP spokesperson Senior Inspector Xavier Solda, Maute was “in critical condition” when he was rushed from the special intensive care unit at Camp Bagong Diwa at around 3 p.m. to Taguig-Pateros District Hospital, where he later died.
“Tumaas yung BP [blood pressure] niya and then maya-maya, nahirapan na siyang huminga, and then bumaba na rin ‘yung pulso niya, so ginawa ng mga nurse namin and then sa advice ng aming doctor, sinugod na siya sa hospital,” Solda told dzBB.
Maute, who suffered from diabetes, hypertension and hepatitis, was rushed to the hospital by the BJMP tactical team and “augmentation” from Philippine National Police, said Solda.
Maute’s relatives brought his body to Quiapo Mosque, according to a report by GMA’s Mav Gonzales.
