Former President Benigno S. Aquino III will be a no-show in today’s second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City.
By tradition, the House of Representatives reserves a special row in the Chamber for former presidents of the country to occupy.
Malacanang said it respects the decision of former President Noynoy Aquino not to attend the SONA.
Presidential Communications Office Secretary Martin Anadanar said invitations were issued to former Presidents Fidel V. Ramos, Joseph Ejercito Estrada, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and to Aquino.
After the SONA, Andanar said President Duterte will hold a press conference to be able to explain to the media the salient points of his speech.
This is going to be the first time that a president allows for a press conference after delivering a SONA.
Andanar said President Duterte’s second SONA today will be historic but refused to divulge details.
