Charges filed vs NPA rebel captured in Zamboanga

CRIMINAL charges have been filed against a member of the New People’s Army (NPA) who was captured in a recent clash with government troops in Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported.

The Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula identified the captured NPA rebel as Joy Andang Talip, 32, a resident of Sitio Kalawit, Barangay Tinaplan, Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte.

The police said murder and multiple frustrated murder charges were filed before the Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Dipolog City on Tuesday against Talip.

Two NPA rebels and two soldiers were killed in the firefight.

The troops were conducting security patrol when they encountered the rebels.

The soldiers were detailed to secure a government road construction project linking the town of Leon Postigo, Zamboanga del Norte to the municipality of Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur.
